Lazy Days, How to Become Lazy, Especially for the Workaholic Americans.

It’s NEVER been easier to have lazy days…if you know the secret!

I Did it. So can you! Become lazy now, and have lazy days.

  • This article could also be titled, how to have fun, because many people have forgotten how to relax, chill with people, and have a good time. They are always anxious and worried about their productivity.

“Americans may be the most overworked, vacation-deprived people on Earth. On average, we get 14 vacation days a year—less than other Western countries—and the typical U.S. employee only uses 10 of them. And 37% of workers take less than seven consecutive days off a year.” Lynn Brenner, April 15, 2007, Are You Working Too Hard?

Most people choose not to use all their limited vacation time!

When I first read the quote above, it didn’t make any sense because it implies that people enjoy working more than vacationing. Come on people! Enjoy your lazy days.

Overwork is a serious problem for many people around the world. Their entire lives circle around work. If they are not working then many of them feel as though they are wasting their time and not being fully productive. Many of them have forgotten how to sit back, relax, and have an enjoyable time. In other words, they have forgotten how to have fun. If you are one of theses people, stop it. Have a lazy day, right now.

  • In Japan, there are been numerous reported cases where people have died from too much work. They call it “Karoshi”, which literally means death from too much work. Every year there are hundreds of reported cases of “Karoshi” and every year that number steadily increases.

Stop working so hard. It’s bad for you.

“The harder you work, the greater your capacity for work, and the more restorative your rest will be.”

This quote is from an article by Steve Pavlina who has pioneered the personal development epidemic. Why would you want a greater capacity to work? Is it to make more money so that later you can have a good time? Is it for social standings?

I want to share a story with you that I heard in an email.

A corporate worker was vacationing in Thailand and met a fisherman. They began chatting. After some initial conversation the following remarks were made.

“You’re a corporate worker? You must work very hard for that job.” The fisherman says.

“Yep, I do. I usually work 10 hour days, and sometimes I work on the weekends.” The impressive corporate worker replies.

“How come?”

“How come what?”

“Why do you work so hard?” The fisherman looked at the corporate worker.

After some time the corporate worker replies, “Well, so I can retire younger.”

“What do you want to do when you retire?” The fisherman curiously asked.

The corporate worker took some time to answer. “I want to do relaxing things.”

“Like fishing?” The fisherman asked helpfully.

“Yes, fishing would be nice.”

“You don’t have to wait to do that. You can decide to enjoy your present life rather than working your life away. In fact, I am a fisherman” The man smiled at the corporate worker.

The best way to convince someone to stop working so hard is to convince them that it’s not good for them. Hopefully the previous examples have done this.

The next step is to learn how to have fun and have lazy days. Yes, some people need to relearn how to have fun. As children I believe we all knew how to have fun, but somehow people have forgotten how to have innocent fun in the course of growing up. Lazy days are the best.
